Letter from Lorna Doria,
Missionary to the Philippines

In December of 2013, I was looking for someone who could help Jherty Anne, a 9 year old child here in the Philippines, who needed surgery for her right hand deformity due to an accidental chemical burn when she was 19 days old.

We know about Compassion Medicine from Dennis Moss, a friend, who informed me that they could help us with the surgery. From that point, we started communicating with Dr. Dean Jones, the founder of Compassion Medicine. We worked with Compassion medicine to arrange for her surgery and brought Jherty Anne to Manila because there was no specialist surgeon and Heart Center here where we live.

Jherty Anne Baluyot’s family is very poor. They earn only $94/month which barely can buy food for the family. On May 8, 2014 she underwent surgery with the help of Compassion Medicine. They paid the cost of surgery, food, hotel to stay in Manila and airfare for Jherty Anne and her parents. The surgery was successful!

The next child that Compassion Medicine helped us with was Jenny Vellera who is 4 years old. She was diagnosed with Congenital Heart disease (Tetralogy of Fallot) when she was 3 months old. Her parents work as sugarcane laborers .Even they combined income could barely pay for medicine. She underwent surgery on May 4, 2014 to close the hole of her heart .The surgery was successful with the help of Compassion Medicine. After the operation, Compassion Medicine also gave them follow-up care and medicine.

Now, both Jenny and Jherty Anne are enjoying their life .They live normal like the other children do. Jenny’s parents have no worries as she can walk long and run, sing and dance and can play with her friends and sister.

Proverbs 22:9 “Whoever has a bountiful eye will be Blessed, for he shares his food with the poor”. May Compassion Medicine continue their mission to help children not only in the Philippines but all over the world.

On behalf of the Family of Jenny, Jherty Anne and Filipino people here, to Dr.’s Dean and Dawn Jones of Compassion Medicine, thank you so much for your help. I am very glad to be part of your wonderful missionary work. I appreciate your sincerity, love and compassion to help less fortunate children. Success is not accident. It is hard work, perseverance, and most of all Love for what you are doing. Continue your good work and medical mission and you will be blessed. May God Bless you all!

Best Regards,

Lorna Doria
